How can they license people to drive, and require degrees for most professions… and not require formal training to become a parent? Parenting is one of those few occupations where we are constantly forced to learn “on the job.” This book presents extraordinary wisdom from ordinary parents who, like you, have had to learn on the job. These stories and insights come from a diverse group of adults, representing a cross-section of American moms and dads. From a mother of a teenage son, we learn how to correct years of enabling. From parents who have lost a son in a military accident, we learn how to go on. From a husband who discovers his wife has put their daughter’s jeans in the freezer, we learn to find humor in those crazy moments of parenting. In each case, these men and women come out wiser – offering us all lessons on this difficult, funny, and taxing enterprise of child rearing. Open this book…and you may just find a page that is missing from your parent handbook.

I have purchased a book for myself, my sister in law and my best friend. I intend to give this as a gift at every baby shower I go to!!!! It is a must have! Great work Tina!
A great book from someone who has marched the parenting path. It illustrates clearly that you don't know what you don't know when entering parenthood. Highly recommended.
What a great book! I bought an extra copy for the next friend who is facing a parenting "challenge." Inspiring and sometimes pretty darn funny, I loved this book because it reminded me that we are not alone in this and that all we can do is our loving best... (smile and sigh! - a pressure free parenting book - go figure!?) Can't wait for Missing Pages Two.
What a fun book to read! This is a great present for a first time mom (think baby shower gift), it will calm fears that we are not all perfect and we learn as we go. As an aged parent, you will laugh out loud as you relate to some of the stories. Christina Brockett has done a fabulous job at interviewing and re-telling parent’s stories – heartfelt and truthful. I laughed, I cried, and I reflected after reading many stories. Brockett wrote the book in a format that is easy to pick up and put back down without losing interest.
I just finished reading this book and can't recommend it enough. This book is not your typical parenting book...rather, each chapter gives a real life example of a tough parenting challenge and how the parent or parents resolved it. The author then ends each chapter with words of wisdom to summarize the challenge in a meaningful way. Some of the stories are hilarious and others are emotional and heartfelt. Either way, the stories represent real life situations that we all can relate to and gain insight from. This would definitely also be a great book to give as a gift to a new parent or for Mothers or Fathers day. I can also imagine referring to it as my children grow older and encounter some of the situations noted in the book. Well done!
As a pediatric nurse practitioner, I will recommend this book for all kinds of parents. It gives practical advice I would never have time to give in the office. The short story format is perfect for busy parents on the go.
This is my new gift for mother's to be! Really it's for all parents. The book will make you laugh, cry and say yep that has happened to me. It's a wonderful book that got my friends and me talking about the stores in the book and how they related to our lives. I even gained a few tips for myself. As a working mother of two young children and not a lot of time on my hands I loved that I could easily pick it up when I found a few moments to myself. I would highly recommend this book.
