A Touch Of Crimson Renegade Angels 1 Sylvia Day 9781472200747 Books

Picture this: Watchers, Sentinels, and Lycans, all if them angels in one form or another, whether vampire, winged angel or wolf. Add to that dozens of names, a dash of religious lore and a rather complicated conflict. What you have is a story that I felt at times was unwieldy with the weight of all that. It kept me engaged, but honestly I found myself frequently referring to the glossary that the author so helpfully provided at the start of the book. I do give the author props for an original take on the origin of vampires.

My chief complaint resides in the repetitiveness that was a substantial part of this book. I get that angst is part of romantic literature, but it can be boring if one is reading the same guilt-ridden thoughts over and over. This was true for both the angel Adrian and not-quite-sure-what-she-is, Lauren. I guess my cynicism kicks in when there is a sequel offered to me immediately upon finishing a book. One has to ask, did the author pad her original story just to be able to cash in on the sequel? Me thinks the answer is a resounding yes in this case.

For me this book was just average as the story came off as a bit clunky to read and unnecessarily drawn out. Sylvia Day writes good sex scenes that are romantic without being unnecessarily graphic. I actually got 40% into the story before the protagonists "knew" each other in the biblical sense. There's more humor in that statement than you probably realize. 😉

Bottom line: This is not her best work and the jury is still out as whether or not I will buy the sequel.

A Touch Of Crimson Renegade Angels 1 Sylvia Day 9781472200747 Books Reviews

Good book but felt like it left me hanging. Was hoping book 2 was going to be continued with Lindsay and Adrian. Much to my disappointment it's not. Their story just felt unfinished to me. I've never actually read a book where I felt like it left me hanging like this one did. Maybe it was just me not wanting to see their story end so soon, but I really don't think that's the case. It simply felt like it ended in the middle of a book. There story was really just beginning then BAM it was over. I really had high hopes for this series but I was very disappointed. Won't continue the series.
I will just say this... the book is amazing however DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THE AUDIOBOOK! The narrators for this series sounds like my text to speech. It was so hard to follow I lost half the book and had to re listen to chapters. Finally i just bought the book and honestly it was so good. I almost stop listening to the book due to the narrator. I was so glad i actually got the book because it really was excellent and the concept of fallen/vampire concept was very original. I would have never released any of it by listening to that horrible narrators. Giving it a 3 star not because of the books but because of the audiobook narrator. Dont ever use those people again!
Enter a world of the author's creation where mortals, Angels, Archangels, Vampires, Lycan and Demons exist and they all seem to be related!
Watchers were the original angels sent to Earth to watch humans but when they began to procreate with them they were punished by a group of angels called Sentinels. Their wings were cut off, they lost their souls, gained immortality and became "the Fallen". Their offspring became half mortal, half angel but they could be turned by one of the original Fallen and could then walk in daylight as long as they were given access to a Fallen's blood. Minions are vampires who are confined to the night, they can make more vampires but cannot reproduce. They are hunted by the Sentinels. But they outnumber the Sentinels.
Lyman's were created from angels and demons and have been cursed since the beginning of their time to serve as bodyguards to the Sentinels. Most are not treated well by the Sentinels. They are not immortal but do live longer then plain mortals and can reproduce like mortals. They outnumber the Sentinels by the thousands. They are indentured and any Lycan who shows signs of being Alpha are immediately separated from the packs and forced to hunt alone.
There were two hundred Sentinels sent to punish the Fallen. They are not allowed to kill the Fallen unless they are attacked first. Sentinels are immortal but can be killed. They are to remain pure angels so no sex, no emotions and no ties. They are to keep the balance.
Adrian, the leader of the Sentinels fell in love and lust with the daughter of Syre, the leader of the Fallen. When Shadoe was mortally wounded in battle, Adrian took her to her father to be saved. He did not understand the price both he and Shadoe would pay for that mistake.
Lindsay Gibson is not a "normal" mortal. She watched her Mother die when she was five, at the hands of Vampires. She has been hunting and killing Vampires for the past 10 years. Lindsay hears voices in the wind and can tell the difference between a mortal and anything else. Although she may not know exactly what they are, she can discern whether they are good or evil and acts accordingly.
Lindsay and Adrian are destined to meet, again. What is Lindsay and will she know what Adrian has done?
What is causing the Vampires to go "rabid" and who or what is behind it? Will the Lycan revolt against the Sentinels? Who or what is killing Sentinels? What do the Archangels have to do with any of this?
I couldn't put the book down. As always, the author draws the reader into her world and her characters like a tornado and does not let go.
I don't read angel romance. There's a reason for that. I find the inherent contradiction in being damned for love difficult to bear, particularly if God is supposed to be a loving God. But I picked this up because Sylvia Day wrote it and I love her writing. I wasn't disappointed. As always, this is a great story which just happens to have a lot of hot sex in it ) Not just a great story, but if you go on to read further in the series you'll find a good murder mystery/thriller too - which just happens to have a lot of hot sex in it ) Thank you so much, Ms Day, for writing great stories that just happen to have a lot of hot sex in them. It restores my faith a bit...although I'll admit I'm finding it amusing how difficult it is to reconcile the inherent contradictions of angel romance. I'm still not fond of that, but if anyone can make it work it's Sylvia Day.
